The Glass House tells the story of Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz, who defied Nazi authority and bureaucratic indifference during World War II to save over 60,000 Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust. Stationed as Vice Consul in Budapest, Lutz found himself torn between his duties as a neutral Swiss diplomat and his growing moral responsibility to protect lives. Following the German occupation of Hungary in 1944, Lutz made the courageous decision to issue tens of thousands of protective letters that falsely iidentified Jews as under Swiss protection. His wife, Gertrud, played a crucial role in supporting this mission. After the war, despite his brave actions, Lutz was reprimanded by the Swiss government for overstepping his authority and violating Switzerland's neutrality. His scareer was intentionally sidelined and his story buried.
